BUILD COMPASS AU / QUICK-START GUIDE
Start simply. Save clearly. Share confidently.
1. Sign in with your email
Open your homeowner kit and enter the email you used to purchase. Select Email a sign-in code, check your inbox and spam folder, then enter the latest code in the kit. You do not need to remember a password. Never share your code.
If you already requested a code, select I already have a sign-in code. If your purchase is still being confirmed, refresh your account shortly. Do not pay again.
2. Set up your home
Once your paid access is confirmed, start your home inspection. Enter the address and visit date. Gather your plans, selections, agreed variations and earlier reports. One purchase covers one home, not multiple properties.
3. Follow the rooms
Work through the areas with your builder. Add rooms to suit your home. Record the exact location, what you noticed and what you want checked. Add a location photo and a detail photo where useful. Keep original photographs separately.
“No issue noticed” is your observation, not a compliance certificate. Choose “Could not check” when access, safety, lighting, cleaning or missing services prevent a useful check. Do not climb onto roofs, remove covers or perform invasive tests.
4. Wait for the saved confirmation
Your signed-in inspection saves online as you work. Before closing the page or changing devices, check that the status says Saved online. If it says changes are waiting, saving, offline or not saved, keep the page open and use Save inspection to retry.
If saving still fails, use Download a backup and keep the downloaded file safe before leaving. An error or a spinning indicator is not a saved confirmation. Avoid editing the same inspection on two devices at once.
5. Come back to the same inspection
- Open the homeowner kit in your browser.
- Sign in using the same purchase email and a new email code.
- Find your saved inspection and select Open.
- Wait for the inspection and its photos to load, then continue.
You do not normally need to find or open a downloaded file to continue. Bookmark the account page so it is easy to find again.
6. Download your builder report
Open Your defect list. Review the items and the sharing prompts, then download your PDF report. Open the PDF and check it before sending it yourself to your builder. The kit does not send the report or accept handover for you.
Backups are different from reports
A PDF report is for reading and sharing. A backup file, ending in .json, is for restoring editable notes and photos into the same home inspection. Do not open a backup by double-clicking it or with Adobe.
To restore a backup during active access, sign into the kit, open your inspection and choose Restore a backup. Select the saved file and read the replacement warning. Restoring replaces the current saved record, so download a backup of the current version first if you need it. Wait for the online saved confirmation afterwards.
When your access ends
Your account shows the end of your three-calendar-month access, measured from successful payment. Download and check your final report before that date. Editing stops at expiry. You then have 30 days of read-only recovery for saved inspection information and photos before deletion. Recovery does not extend editing. Downloaded reports do not expire.
Important limits and help
This is an observation and record-keeping tool, not an independent inspection, compliance assessment, legal advice or a decision about completion, payment or possession. Seek qualified help for technical concerns.
